The people of Britain love a good BBQ. And when the temperature rises and the sun comes out, we don’t half make the most of it, because let’s face it – who knows how long it will last?
However, we are guessing it’s been a long time since your garden was graced with visitors, and it’s probably looking a little lacklustre and in need of some TLC. If you’re planning a family get together or BBQ bash in the garden, don’t subject your guests to a yellowed, moss-filled lawn, rusty furniture and hazardous patio. Be prepared and follow thesetips – they’ll help you get your garden looking so good that your guests will never want to leave.
Feed and trim your lawn
Is your lawn overgrown? Yellow or sparse in places? Maybe it’s time to give it a landscaping makeover. You should feed your lawn on a regular basis with granular feed throughout the summer months. But if you need quick results, try a soluble feed for a few days before your party.
However, if your lawn is looking more unkempt and overgrown than sparse, it’s time to get the lawnmower out. Make sure to trim the edges too, so that you have a nice clean line between the grass and the flower beds. It really makes a difference.
Tidy up your decking or invest in some
During the rainy months, general spillages, dirt and grime can build up over time, and collect in the grains of the wood. Luckily, getting your decking looking much cleaner and brighter is fairly cost effective and is as simple as scrubbing it down with some cleaner and a brush.
If you don’t have decking, then it’s something to consider, as it adds another dimension to your garden entertaining experience. And it means you don’t have to worry about the state of the grass, or muddy feet entering your home. Check out our decking projects here.
Restore and clean your patio
If you don’t have a lawn, then you have considerably less to worry about. However, you should still give your patio a good scrub or use a pressure washer to blast away the dirt and moss. But if it’s still looking rough around the edges, then maybe you’d benefit from our professional Patio Restoration and Cleaning service. We can make it look brand-spanking new with no effort required from you.
To add some life to your patio garden, you could also add some colour and shape with baskets and pots filled with colourful flowers.
Uprgade your garden furniture
Your wooden garden furniture can also be affected by the cold, wet weather. So, it’s wise to use a specific wooden furniture cleaner and finish it off with a protector and wood stain.
Alternatively, if it really is past its sell-by date then maybe it’s time to upgrade to something new.
Get the lighting right
Although, lighting isn’t a big deal during the day, when it starts going dark it shouldn’t mean you have to finish the party early. Good lighting not only illuminates your surroundings, it also adds a little extra character to your party. There is a variety of styles to suit all tastes and budgets – from lanterns to fairy lights.
Alternatively, you could try making your own tea lights using candles and mason jars. You could place them along your path, on the table or hang them on trees. Of course, it all depends on how crafty you are.
Prepare for the worst
With a British summer, it is always advised to prepare for the worst – whether that’s in the form of an emergency gazebo, ponchos, umbrella or a clean and inviting conservatory. Don’t let the unpredictability of British weather spoil your fun.
